Answer

Evaporation is the process by which a liquid changes into a gas, usually when it is heated or when it gains heat from its surroundings.

During evaporation, the particles at the surface of the liquid gain enough energy to break away and become gas. This can happen even without boiling.

Example:

When water is left in an open container, it slowly disappears. This is because it evaporates and changes into water vapour, a gas.

Evaporation happens faster when:

a. The temperature is high (like on a sunny day)

b. There is wind or moving air,

c. The surface area of the liquid is wide (like water in a basin).

Evaporation is a physical change because only the state of matter changes — from liquid to gas — but the substance (water) stays the same.
