Answer

High population density means that a large number of people live in a small area. In big cities like Nairobi, this can cause many problems.

Two main challenges are:

1. Strain on infrastructure and services

 – When too many people live in one area, things like housing, water, schools, hospitals, and roads are not enough for everyone.

 – This causes overcrowded schools, long lines in hospitals, water shortages, and poor roads.

2. Increased environmental pollution

 – Too many people produce too much rubbish, dirty water, and smoke.

 – This leads to air pollution, dirty rivers, and poor hygiene, which can cause diseases.

Other challenges include:

3. Traffic congestion

 – Too many vehicles on the roads lead to long traffic jams and delays.

4. Unemployment

 – There are not enough jobs for everyone, so many people remain jobless.

5. Growth of informal settlements (slums)

 – People who can’t afford good housing build shelters in overcrowded and poor areas with few basic services.
