What are the different types of lakes? Give one example of each if possible.

There are many types of lakes. Each type is formed in a different way. Below are the main types of lakes:
1. Depression Lakes
These lakes are formed when land sinks or is eroded to form a hollow (depression), which then fills with water.
Example: Lake Victoria (partly a depression lake)
2. Crater Lakes
Formed when water collects in a volcanic crater (a bowl-shaped hole left after a volcanic eruption).
Example: Lake Paradise in Marsabit, Kenya
3. Corrie or Tarn Lakes
These are small round lakes found in mountains, formed by glacial erosion (ice scraping the land).
Example: Teleki Tarn near Mount Kenya
4. Lava-Dammed Lakes
These form when lava from a volcanic eruption blocks a river or valley, causing water to collect behind it.
Example: Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria
5. Ox-bow Lakes
These are U-shaped lakes formed when a river bends and then cuts off part of its path.
Example: Ox-bow lakes found along the lower parts of River Tana
6. Fault Lakes
Formed when land between faults sinks and fills with water. These are common in the Rift Valley.
Example: Lake Tanganyika and Lake Naivasha
7. Man-made Lakes (Artificial Lakes of Reservoirs)
These are lakes made by people, usually by building a dam across a river.
Example: Lake Volta in Ghana, and Masinga Dam in Kenya
