The British began to take control of Kenya in the late 1800s.
1. In 1895, the British declared Kenya a part of the East Africa Protectorate.
This means they took over and started to control the land and people.
2. In 1920, the protectorate became known as the Kenya Colony.
From this time, the British ruled Kenya as a colony and made many decisions without involving the African people.
